Once again, dear Mohammed, I am weeping at your beautiful, deeply human words. I send you condolences for the death of your friend Hasan, another in the train of endless sorrows - and unspeakable outrages. Last night I got to meet our extraordinary friend Jen in person and see the film DSP has produced, along with you as co-producer, about another, younger Mohamed and the cruelties his young life has endured. There you are - not just writing brilliantly, not just sustaining your wife and kids through everything, but also supporting other projects to bring the hideous realities of the genocide to a world that doesn't want to see. Your insight that ceasefire doesn't mean peace, only a (possibly brief) cessation of bombing and war, stays with me. But so does hope, because someone like you exists and speaks out in this terrifying world. Please stay well, keep hoping for Rafik and Zain and all of us.
